The Dunkin Family RV Fundraiser
UPDATE!!!
Praise God, we found an RV! .... When we left the house in Walsenburg, we had no idea what was going to happen next. We had 4 days over Labor Day weekend at a really nice condo that a lady offered us for helping her get her web site up and running and teaching her how to do all the work on it. It was really nice, it was in the mountains of Cuchara, Colorado. We were at 9300 feet above sea level, and that was quite a bit different than 6300 feet, a lot harder for us to breath, but it was absolutely beautiful. We will post pics from there as time permits.
From the condo we headed North to Colorado Springs, and then North West to Woodland Park. We stayed a week at a really nice campground called the Diamond Campground on Hwy 67, just off of Hwy 24. The campground is in the woods and is so neat. While we were there we looked for something to rent. Woodland Park is a nice town with everything you could possibly want, yet very small. We really liked it, so we looked for a place to live besides the tent. We found an ad for a hotel room with a kitchen and room to sleep 6 adults with very reasonable monthly rates for the Winter months. We decided that was our best choice since it was getting very cold up here at night, much too cold for a tent!
We went and looked at the hotel and a couple of rooms, and they would be okay for us for the Winter. Then we were talking to the owners about our situation with the mold and chemical issues, and how we wanted to buy an RV, but needed to find someone who would finance one to us, (or get a lot more money than what we had so far). You would not believe our shock and surprise, when the owner reached over and grabbed a piece of paper and said, "I have some friends that have a 5th wheel out back here, and they are selling it and are willing to finance it themselves". We about lost it! We went and looked at it, and it was perfect, 36 foot long, with 2 slides, and in great shape. We called the owners, and with a small down payment, and $300.00 per month, we are now living in our new home, and loving it! We will post pics of it soon too.
The fundraiser did not go well at all! WE had two donators, and that was all in almost a month. I understand that folks are leary of giving out money to any organization any more. Heck even Red Cross cannot be trusted anymore, and that truly is very sad because it causes families such as ours to suffer. We pray that God will bless richley those who helped us, without it we would still be living in either a tent or in a hotel room. We also Pray that God will Bless our family richly so that we are able to help other families affected by toxic mold, because very few people are willing to help anymore because of so many scams. We honestly do not blame those who fear helping because they do not know if they are being scamed or not, but we are asking those people, if you cannot bring yourself to donate to our cause out of fear of being scammed, (which is not the case at all), then wouldn't you at least consider doing your shopping through our Shopping Mall? We have many merchants to choose from, Amazon, Tiger Direct, Bath and Body Works, and many, many more. You will spend no more shopping through us, than if you shop directly through the retailer, in fact you may save money because we post deals that you may not otherwise see. We get a commission from every merchant linked in our Shopping Mall, for every item purchased, therefore you can help us without "giving" us any money at all. All you have to do, is do your shopping through our Shopping Mall, and tell your friends about it too, the more people who shop through us, the more money we make, and the more money we can make, the more we can help others as well as ourselves, with the fight that never seems to end for any of us "moldies". You never know, we may one day be helping you, but not without support from others!
Our ultimate goal here is to be able to help those who have been swept under the rug and forgotten about as we were. We are finally beginning to break free of the mold and problems that came with it for so many years. We still need a bit of help, but there is hope, so much more hope than we have had in so many years. Right now we have three great people to thank for that, a dear lady named Helen who I met on Myspace, a wonderful kind person, who I have no idea who they are other than a name they asked me not to give. Without them and their very generous donation, we were able to have the down payment we needed to buy this RV, and do some needed work to it. The third are the wonderful couple who are selling us this awesome 5th wheel, absolutely interest free, and at a payment we can afford! If it were not for all three of these people, we would not have this RV right now, and would most likely still be in our tent, and pretty cold right now. Thank you so much to all three of you, for your kindness and love, and towards a family you barely know!
As I mentioned above there were some repairs to be made, nothing major, we had a leak in the kitchen grey water tank and had to repair that. We had to buy skirting for the winter, we went with tarps for now because of cost, however we are looking for materials to do it in plywood if we can get a good price on the wood. We still need to replace the floor, it is only $400.00, (unless we can find someone with scraps they are willing to part with), but we do not have enough left for that right now. We do need to get it done soon though, because there is a powder in the carpet that will not come out no matter how much we vacuum, and it bothers our lungs when it gets stirred up. Easy to fix with linoleum, just have to get the extra money to so.
Well that is about it. Remember to do your shopping through our Shopping Mall, so you can help us to help others!
