I think the hardest part of homeschooling has got to be teaching a child with special needs. It can be quite a challenge every single day, and some days you may just throw your hands up in the air and say forget it for the day. That's is okay. You do not want to frustrate yourself and you especially do not want to frustrate your child.

I began homeschooling our son Mark 5 years ago. We had so much trouble with the school he was in. He began having seizures and any time he got hurt or upset about something he would go into an episode. It got to a point he was having episodes almost daily. We finally found out that something was happening to him at school. Mark does not talk so it was hard to know just what was going on. I either called or visited the school daily. One day when I called I heard things going on in the class room with some of the other handicapped children that made my toes curl. It was about that same time that it become impossible to get Mark onto the school bus. He would cry, fight, and scream at the top of his lungs. The bus driver got to were she would no longer take him because of how traumatized he was becoming from it. WE came to the conclusion that something was going on in the class room. WE never found out what was going on, but we took him out and began homeschooling the best we knew how here at home. I'm sure there are programs out there somewhere that can help our son, but so far I have not found any near us.

Mark talks very little, and understands little that you ask him to do in terms of, "please do this", or "please do that" However he is very bright when it comes to computers. He also learns well with, videos, and books.
